What's Wrong With This Picture?
Well, nothing really except: This was a three day shoot, and all three days were outside on terrain like this deep in the mountains of West Virginia. The Pathfinder Dolly was requested for a dolly shot that never happened. The Pathfinder Dolly is NOT meant to work on a slope such as this, and at no time was any slopes discussed, productions was talking about a tracking shot (on one day). The production did not want the ATV or even the Turf Dolly. So a last minute accommodations had to be made for the base to work in this location. This severely handicapped the entire shoot day for the crane, and changed the other two days. The crane only worked for about 2 hours on this day of a 12 hour day. With the ATV, it could have worked all day. We got one shot instead of, maybe 20. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!
The Solution
The Eagle Eye ATV The solution to the sloping ground and mobility problem is the Eagle Eye ATV. Each wheel can be raised 18 inches off of the ground. As shown in the picture above, the slope of the ground is easily conquered. The crane was built in a parking lot three doors away, away from other cameras, then moved into position. Once built, it took 10 minutes to find the right position for the shot. The crane was driven into this location and placed to get the best angle of the subject house for TLC's Trading Spaces in the mountains of Asheville, NC. The right Base, is as good as Gold! Communication is the BEST way to avoid the disaster of the shoot in West Virginia. We ask questions for specific reasons, because WE KNOW WHAT THE EQUIPMENT WILL DO!
